A Syrian Refugee and Concert Violinist Shares Her Story & Music

Tuesday, May 24, 6:30pm, at Plymouth Congregational Church - Free, and open to the public.

Mariela Shaker is a Syrian violinist who fled war-torn Aleppo on a 2013 US music scholarship. She was granted asylum and US Citizenship. Mariela received the Daily Point of Light Award from President George H. W. Bush, was named Champion of Change for World Refugees by President Barak Obama, and is a recipient of the Spirit of Anne Frank Center's Promisekeeper Award. She has performed worldwide, at the UN, and throughout the US, including at both the Kennedy and Lincoln Centers, as well as for the International Rescue Committee. She has worked with Ben Stiller and Meryl Streep to fundraise over a million dollars toward support for Syrian refugees.
